Age at egg freezing is relevant to future outcomes, but there is no single age or egg number that guarantees success. A meaningful consultation replaces broad promises with an individual estimate and its limitations.
Understand which age is being discussed
Ask whether the clinic's figures refer to age at egg collection or age when the eggs were later used. Those are different questions. Health at the time of a future pregnancy also needs assessment, even when eggs were frozen earlier.
Ask how an estimate was produced
A calculator may combine age and egg number, but it cannot know every future event. Ask whether the estimate is based on the clinic's own outcomes, published research or a model, and how much data supports it. A percentage can look precise while still containing substantial uncertainty.
Plan for a range of responses
The number of eggs collected, the number mature enough to freeze and the number that ultimately produce embryos are separate stages. Discuss what you would do if fewer mature eggs were stored than expected. Decide whether another cycle would be acceptable before feeling pressured by a disappointing result.
Avoid turning a decision into a deadline imposed by advertising
Age matters, but a promotional countdown is not an individual assessment. Ask what waiting is likely to change in your circumstances and which information is still missing. Discuss your plans for trying to conceive, the role of a partner if relevant, and the costs of keeping and later using eggs. You should leave with a realistic range of possibilities rather than a promise that freezing removes all future fertility concerns.
