Egg freezing stores unfertilised eggs for possible future use. It can preserve an opportunity, but it does not guarantee a future pregnancy. The decision deserves a discussion of likely outcomes, treatment demands and longer-term plans.
Start with your reason and timetable
Some people consider freezing before treatment that may affect fertility; others are not ready to try for pregnancy. These situations can involve different priorities. If cancer treatment is planned, ask for prompt coordination between the relevant specialists so fertility discussions do not delay essential care without agreement.
Understand the treatment involved
The process generally includes assessment, ovarian stimulation, monitoring, egg collection and freezing of suitable mature eggs. Ask how many visits are likely and what can make a cycle change or stop. A scan estimate is not a guarantee of the number of mature eggs eventually stored.
Discuss future use now
Stored eggs would need to be thawed and used in fertility treatment. Not every egg survives or leads to a usable embryo. Ask for realistic information based on age at freezing and the number stored, together with the uncertainty around those estimates. More than one collection may be discussed.
Check the practical commitments
Request an estimate that separates assessment, medication, collection, storage and later treatment. Ask how consent, contact details, storage arrangements and decisions about unused eggs are managed under the applicable rules. Keep copies of signed documents. If you are arranging treatment in Mumbai, check the collection site and emergency support arrangements as well as consultation availability. A good decision combines medical information with what you can reasonably manage emotionally, financially and practically.
